For my wedding I wanted a fun photo booth for guests to leave some great photos. After a little research I found that they were very pricey to rent and quite complicated to use and set up. I also wanted something that could fit in a tight space. I started researching iPad apps and I finally found one that was decent. All of them are lacking in some way, mostly far too confusing for the majority of people to use. I ended up using the one called "My Photobooth" It was the most user friendly, but it wasn't very good at auto exposure.
First I knew I wanted it to have an old theater feel to it. I found on Amazon some vanity fixtures that cost me about 16 bucks for the two of them. I went to home depot to get some low wattage bulbs and a pre cut piece of wood, then a local fabric store for the red velvet fabric.
I started by drilling the holes for the wiring, I then wrapped the wood in the fabric, using a staple gun to stretch it out. Next I installed the vanity fixtures and wired them up. I ended up using my iPad Air for the camera. I took the box it came in and cut it out for the front to be open. I wrapped more fabric around that and attached the back of the box to the wood. I set my iPad into the back, plugged it in with the charge cable and then fit the front of the box over it. It was very snug so I didn't have to worry about it falling out.
I attached a dimmer to the whole unit so I could control the light output. For mounting I used small pieces of wood that ran the length of the photo booth, I created a small pocket in there and set the booth on two light stands. This mounting could be a lot better but I was pretty rushed making this the night before our wedding!
Here are some of the photos from the night!
For your own event or if you are a photographer who does events this could be a really valuable tool in helping grab attention and stand out in the crowd! If you really wanted to get fancy and create your own app for the iPad and set up a printer you could do that too. It was a huge success at my wedding! If you are not as handy or don't know much about building or electronics, you can contract me to build one for you.
And for one last piece of entertainment! The photoshop job I did to one of my favorite wedding photos.
